The final week of the regular season in the NFL is in the books and the playoffs have finally taken form. The last week of the season can be tricky because of the unknown lineup changes that some teams take to rest players or test others out in different situations. This lead to a number or noticeable upsets – like the Patriots losing outright as 16 point favorites to the Dolphins.
This week is the Wildcard round in the playoffs, meaning four of the eight teams below will move on to the divisional round. Each 1st and 2nd seed in both conferences received a first-round bye in the playoffs, meaning the Chiefs, Ravens, Packers, and 49ers will have an extra week to prepare for their opponents.
History isn’t on the side of the wildcard winners. Since the modern NFL playoff scheduling started in the 2008 season (2009 playoffs), wildcard teams have gone just 13-31 (29.5%) in the next round
