Boise State Broncos vs BYU Cougars Vegas Odds, Pick and Prediction

On Friday, the Boise State Broncos travel down to Provo, Utah, to take on the BYU Cougars. This game can be summed up with one word – disappointment. So far, this season has been a huge disappointment for both teams as they both were expected to have better records at this point. A victory this week could help either team turn around their fortunes and possibly make a run for a meaningful bowl game. Kickoff inside of LaVell Edwards Stadium is at 10:15 PM ET.

Boise State Broncos vs BYU Cougars Preview and Vegas Betting Lines

Boise State (2-2) hasn’t played in two weeks as they were on bye last week. So, they have had 2 weeks to stew over their loss to Virginia on Sep 22. The Broncos were expected to be a better team than their record shows. Unfortunately, Virginia came into town and disrupted their plans. Boise looks to turn things around and still contend for their conference title and a bowl game.

BYU (1-4) is coming off an embarrassing 40-24 loss to Utah State. Is there a more disappointing team this season than BYU? If it wasn’t for Portland State in the opening week, BYU would be winless on the season. Despite a promising performance against rival Utah, the Cougars followed it up with two straight losses and getting outscored 80-30.

The spread opened with BYU getting 7 points. It has since gone up to 7.5 points.

Free Vegas Point Spread Pick and Prediction: Boise State Broncos -7.5

Neither team has been particularly good against the spread this season. However, until BYU can actually win a game against a good team, I can’t pick them at all. The Cougars are giving up 26 points per game and 381 total yards per game. On the flip side, they’re only scoring 12 points per game and averaging only 256 total yards per game. In other words, they’re a hot mess.

Boise State has been inconsistent on offense this year, but they’ve had two weeks to prepare for this game. I expect them to get on track again, especially against a terrible BYU team. The Cougars defense is susceptible against the run, which means that Boise has a chance to move the chains on the ground with running back Montell Cozart. Additionally, quarterback Brett Rypien could have some opportunities for big plays down the field if his o-line can hold up.

Defensively, Boise State is giving up 29 points per game and 346 total yards per game. Their defense isn’t much better than BYU’s, which could allow the Cougars to find some success on offense. However, until BYU actually proves they can score against average-to-good teams, it’s hard to believe that they will accomplish much this game.

With two defenses that don’t really stop anyone, there should be a lot of points scored. Unfortunately, BYU is unable to do so. Most likely, BYU won’t be able to keep up with the scoring pace of Boise State and will fall to 1-5 on the season.

BYU is 0-5 ATS this season and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games. Boise State 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games.

The spread is the safe bet in this one as BYU is unable to cover a game in 2017. Stay away from the Over/Under as you just can’t be sure how many points Boise State will score.

Boise State is 5-2 against BYU since 2003. Over the last 4 years, they have rotated wins. But, if you have watched BYU this year, then you will know just how bad they are on offense. And, since their defense is on the field all game, you can expect Boise State to take advantage of the TOP battle and win this one. I’m thinking this game is 30-13 in favor of the Broncos.
