Kansas City Chiefs vs New York Jets AFC Betting Preview and Pick

After starting 5-0, the Chiefs have gone 1-5 and look like they forgot how to play football. What was once the best looking team in the NFL, with wins over the Patriots and Eagles, now look like a team struggling to make the Playoffs. Currently, the Chiefs sit 1 game up in the AFC West and appear to be losing their hold on the top spot. The Jets hope to defeat a struggling Chiefs team and keep their tiny playoff chances still alive. Kickoff inside MetLife Stadium is at 1 PM ET.

Chiefs vs Jets: Vegas Sports Betting Lines and NFL Game Preview

Since 2001, these two teams have played against each other 8 times and have each won 4 games apiece. They faced off against each other last year with the Chiefs winning 24-3.

Kansas City (6-5) has lost 3 straight games, with all 3 against teams without a winning record. Their offense has been atrocious during that span only scoring 12 ppg. They forgot how to run the ball and Alex Smith has regressed from his earlier MVP-like season performance. The Chiefs desperately need a win this weekend to end the skid and keep hope alive in the AFC West. If they lose the division lead, they will be in trouble with tie breakers for the AFC Wild Card spot.

The Jets (4-7) have also lost 5 of 6 games and have fallen 2 games behind in the AFC Wild Card race. Their biggest struggle has come in the 4th quarter where they have been outscored 117-44. Quarterback McCown has also turned the ball over 7 times during the quarter. Can the Jets win at home this weekend and keep their playoff hopes alive or will they fall short?

The spread opened with KC favored by 4 points. The spread has come down slightly to KC -3.5 points. The Over/Under opened at 44 total points and it remains unchanged.

AFC Game Prediction and Free Vegas Spread Bet: KC Chiefs -3.5

To further the 4th quarter point, the Chiefs have outscored their opponents 98-67 in the final quarter. I believe this is where Kansas City will pull ahead and come away with a late-game victory. Once December hits, good teams tend to play better as they make a run at the playoffs. I believe the Chiefs are still a good team, but have struggled to regain their early season confidence.

The Jets are not good enough to make the playoffs despite surprising everyone and winning 4 games already. I think they will continue their losing streak and fall to the Chiefs at home this weekend.

KC is bringing Darrelle Revis with them to face his former team. This will be the 3rd time that Revis has gone against the Jets in a different uniform. He’s 2-0 against New York and I believe he will improve that record to 3-0.

KC is the more desperate team despite having a better record. I believe they will play better defense and their offense will finally wake up. They were able to do some good things offensively in the second half of last weekend’s game against Buffalo and they will keep that momentum going. Look for Smith to throw short, quick passes to take away the Jets pass rush and blitzes. This will eventually open up running lanes for Hunt.

The Jets on offense will need to keep the passing game going and try to put McCown in favorable passing downs by running the ball effectively on 1st and 2nd down. They’re barely cracking the 100 yard mark per game on the ground, so this will be a team effort to make it happen. I do believe the Chiefs will come after McCown and get a few turnovers, which will be the difference in this matchup.

KC is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games, 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games against the Jets and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in New York. The Jets are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games during Weeks 10 through 13.

I like the Chiefs in this game. I think they finally rebound and make enough plays against an inconsistent Jets offense. From there, I believe Alex Smith will pick apart the Jets defense and Hunt will get going. I see Kelce being the big weapon in the passing game this weekend as the Jets are weak against the TE position. Look for Smith and Kelce to hook up for at least 1 TD and close to 100 yards. Hunt will pour in 100 total yards and 2 TD’s and the Chiefs will turnaround their season. The Jets will keep it close for the first 3 quarters before falling short in the 4th as they have all season long. KC wins this one 23-17.
